New year, new habits

When it comes to New Year’s resolutions, many think of things such as eating healthy or exercising. But now it is also a good time to look at other unhealthy habits you might have picked up throughout the year. Here are a few tips to improve your dental health in 2020.

  1. Buy a new toothbrush. According to the American Dental Association, you should replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months. If you can’t remember the last time you replaced yours or the bristles are frayed or broken, then now is the time to get a new one.
  2. Brush long enough. Brushing regularly doesn’t get the job done if you aren’t brushing long enough. Instead of rushing through your brushing routine, resolve to slow down and take the time to do it properly for a full two minutes.
  3. Store your brush properly. Toothbrushes, just like anything that gets wet, are susceptible to mold and mildew. Prevent the growth of germs by storing your toothbrush upright and in the open so it can air dry.
  4. Choose the right toothbrush. From manual to electric to different size heads, there are a lot of toothbrush options out there. Take time to find different types until you find one that works for you.
