Drink more water, here’s why

Our bodies need water to function. But did you know we also need water to sustain a healthy smile? Staying hydrated, especially during the summer, is vitally important to keeping your teeth strong and gums healthy.

Here’s a few ways you can make your smile sparkle by drinking more water!

Strengthening your teeth

Most tap water has some fluoride in it, which acts as a natural cavity fighter. Water can also help prevent tooth decay by helping wash away cavity-causing bacteria.

Dry mouth
Saliva is important for keeping your teeth and gums healthy. A lack of saliva can lead to dry mouth and cause multiple oral health problems. Dehydration causes the body to cease producing saliva, so it’s important to drink lots of water—especially in dry climates or during the summer. It’s recommended that you drink at least 2.7 to 3.7 liters of water every day.

Keep your mouth clean

Drinking enough water will help prevent dry mouth, but also help flush out bacteria and any stray food particles that may stick around on your teeth.

Keeps your smile pretty

Coffee, soda and other dark colored drinks can stain your teeth. However, if you still want to enjoy these beverages, drinking water alongside them can help prevent staining by washing away any colored residue.
