Summer means sno cones, ice cream and plenty of snacks from the ball field concession stand, right? Wrong! While those are all delicious and you should absolutely indulge every now and then, eating those foods on a regular basis is a nightmare for your teeth! Instead fill your summer days with healthy, easy snacks like fruit, vegetables, cheese cubes, and yogurt. Here are a few recipes to help you out:
Ants on a log
- 4 pre-cut celery sticks
- Peanut butter
Spread peanut butter into washed celery then push raisins into the peanut butter so it looks like the raisins are ants crawling on a celery log.
- Berries, chopped apples, pears, peaches, applesauce, thawed frozen fruit, and/or other fruit
- Toasted coconut
Put yogurt, fruit, granola, nuts, seeds, and coconut out on the counter.
Place yogurt and fruit in bowl or jar in alternating layers.
Sprinkle top with granola and coconut, if desired.
Frozen Fruit Pops
- Fruit (such as kiwi, watermelon, strawberries and blueberries)
- 100% fruit juice of your choice
- 5-oz. paper cups (or popsicle mold)
- Wooden craft sticks
Cut up the fruit into small pieces and combine in a bowl.
Fill each cup with fruit, and place a craft stick in the middle.
Pour fruit juice into each cup, then place the cups in the freezer for two hours or until frozen.
Remember if you do indulge in a few sugary treats, be sure to drink lots of water in-between and brush and floss regularly.
