Healthy winter snack ideas

With colder weather and less sunshine, we might find ourselves reaching for those comforting (but unhealthy) snacks. During this time, it is especially tempting to load up on sugary treats like warm cookies and caramel popcorn, even if they’re harmful to our health and teeth.  

So, before you throw a batch of cookies in the oven, try one of these healthy and tooth-friendly snack ideas for the winter. 

Roasted sweet potato bites 

Sweet potatoes are typically considered a superfood for their wide range of health benefits and nutrients. With Vitamin A and C, they’re also great for your teeth! Cut up a few and throw them in the oven with a sprinkle of olive oil for the perfect winter snack.  

Homemade apple chips  

Apples are a great healthy snack, both for your teeth and body. The Vitamin C contained in apples helps to keep your gums healthy, while the fiber helps to clean your teeth! Eat an apple raw for the best healthy benefits. However, if you’re craving something crunchy, try roasting apple slices in the oven with honey and cinnamon at 225 degrees for about 80 minutes.  

Warm fruit parfait  

If you’re craving a warm and sweet treat in the winter, this is the perfect option! Try sautéing or roasting your favorite fruits. Then, serve it over Greek yogurt which provides calcium for stronger teeth. Or, serve it over oatmeal which has been shown to lower chances of gum disease.
