Common misconceptions about the dentist

If you’re afraid of the dentist, you’re not alone. According to surveys, approximately 9 – 20% of Americans have avoided going to the dentist out of anxiety or fear. However, a lot of this fear stems from common misconceptions surrounding the dentist and dental appointments.

To help ease your fear, here’s some common myths debunked about visiting the dentist.

Going to the dentist will hurt

This is one of the most common misconceptions about visiting the dentist. But at Jackson Dental, your comfort is our priority. Regular cleanings aren’t important

A lot of people don’t visit the dentist unless they’re experiencing tooth pain, but visiting the dentist regularly is important to stopping problems before they form. This can prevent you from having to undergo certain procedures, such as cavity fillings or root canals. It’s recommended by dentists that you schedule at least two cleanings a year, or one every six months.

It’s expensive

Most of the time patients don’t pay out of pocket for their regular cleanings! Most insurance covers two dental cleanings per year. If you’re unsure whether your insurance would be accepted at Jackson Dental, give us a call and we can let you know! For tooth fillings and other procedures, it’s possible you may have out-of-pocket expenses, but if you keep up with your overall health and visit the dentist regularly, you may be able to avoid this.

Jackson Dental does have payment plan options and the staff is happy to work with your budget and find the best payment method for you!
